"Planning of releases is very important to decide what requirements to deliver and when, especially the decision about the selection of requirements in a release within the given resources and according to the demands of stakeholders is difficult. It is even challenging for the open source projects with the large number of stakeholders and more uncertainty about the available resources. Therefore, we aimed to analyze the benefits of a tool supported release planning using the ReleasePlanner for an open source project. In this regard, we tested the ReleasePlanner for planning of 5 major releases of an open source project on the set of 914 requirements, those were prioritized by the 30 stakeholders, the results clearly show that plan generated through the ReleasePlanner are optimized in comparison to the manual plans.
